Why You Should Know Your Main Chakra

I’ve been practicing yoga now for over two decades but can honestly say I only recently began to understand the teachings and basic principles behind chakras, in this article you will find what is your main chakra and why you should know.

So what is a chakra? How do they work? And why is it important to know your main chakra? In certain yoga classes I would hear instructors say things like “your chakra energies may be blocked” or “you need to clear your chakras.”

I honestly had no idea what that meant and thought it was very woo woo and out there. I'd ultimately continue perfecting my steady tree pose on my yoga mat, thinking in my mind that at least I knew the benefits of that position and how it made me feel.

I've always practiced yoga because its given me a sense of calm and peace and reduces my anxiety and stress. Over the past couple of years, I’ve now introduced guided meditation to my daily habits, alongside practicing yoga, daily exercise, and playing tennis. And yes I work a full time job and lead a very busy life. But it’s all about what you decide to prioritize. Read further to find out what is your main chakra and why you should know.

What Is a Chakra? What Is Your Main Chakra And Why You Should Know

How do chakras work? What do they tell us? If you google the term chakra this is what will come up. According to Healthline (my trusted source for health and wellness information as it is 100% fact checked.)

In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel” and refers to the energy centers in your body. These wheels or disks of spinning energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs. To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open, or balanced. If they get blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra.

There are seven chakras that run along your spine. They start at the root, or base, of your spine and extend to the crown of your head. The seven chakras are:

1.) Root chakra

2.) Sacral chakra

3.) Solar plexus chakra

4.) Heart chakra

5.)Throat chakra

6.) Third eye chakra

7.) Crown chakra

I was listening to Maria Menounou’s podcast called Better Together. (I highly recommend her podcast by the way.) Each week Maria brings on some of the world's leading healers, experts, influential celebrities & game-changers to share groundbreaking secrets and tips to getting better in all areas of life, including physical health, emotional wellness, spirituality, finances, relationships & more.

That’s where I came across her episode with Cyndi Dale. Cyndi Dale is an internationally renowned author, speaker, healer, business consultant, and the author of nearly 30 books about energy medicine, intuition, and spirituality.

It’s important to understand what foods your body benefits from. Keep reading to find what is your main chakra and why you should know.

Basically it’s your chakra diet. For example I found out that my main chakra is the 5th chakra, the throat chakra. So what does that mean? The throat chakra, or Vishuddha, is located in your throat and has to do with our ability to communicate verbally. As a communications specialist and journalist, I was not surprised at all to find out that this was my main chakra.

Communication is at the core of who I am and everything I do. So when this chakra is blocked, the irony is that I experience negative symptoms related to communication and self-expression. I literally will get a sore throat and cannot express myself the way I want to. Oh the irony.
