Feng Shui basically just means putting positive vibes and energy into your home through a mix of art and science. Your home should be your sanctuary and energetically support you.

So there are certain things you can do to maximize the energy and flow of your home. And it doesn’t need to be complicated.

5 Easy Tips for Feng Shui Home Decorating

1.) Keep The Clutter Out

It seems that on every level as we age, a light bulb goes off in our head (or in this case home), and we start to realize that less is more, that is why Feng Shui home decorating is so important. It’s about quality over quantity. From the number of friends you have, to what you eat, to the clothes in your wardrobe, and the makeup you apply on your face. It’s no longer about how much stuff you have but rather the quality.

And or if you follow the KonMari Method, it’s very  in sync with the Feng Shui principle of surrounding yourself with positive items that promote you and getting rid of items that have any negative meaning.

"Tidying is just a tool, not the final destination. The true goal should be to establish the lifestyle you want most once your house has been put in order.”

2.) Keep Your Bed Against A Wall Not The Window

Feng Shui warns against placing your bed in front of a window because too much energy flows out of the window and can actually be bad for your sleep. (And we all know that good sleep is everything.)

Putting your bed in front if a window can create sleeping challenges from noise but also there is less security because windows are fragile and can break, or easily be opened, which is not ideal when you want to sleep peacefully and securely. Safety first right? Follow this Feng Shui home decorating tip, it's so important!

Even if you have a small space, try to work around placing your bed in front of any window. Another reason is to stay away from any drafts coming from a window especially during the winter. Good temperature regulation is essential for a good night's sleep. Ain’t nobody got time for a cold because of a draft caused from sleeping near a window.

3.) Separate Work and Rest Areas

This one is pretty self explanatory. Don’t work in the same place that you rest or lounge. For your work/office area, be sure to place your desk in the commanding position, the door should be within view, but you don’t want to be directly in line with it.

In Feng Shui, it's helpful to have areas that are somewhat separated to create a balance of yin and yang. Yang spaces are more active and public, like a living room or office, whereas a yin space is rest oriented and private, like the bedroom.

Other Feng Shui tips for your work space are to have a plant, comfortable office chair, essential oil diffuser and make sure that your desk is not cluttered.

4.) Use the Bagua map properly

If you are saying the Bagua what? Hear us out. The Bagua map is an essential tool for Feng Shui design. You can use it for spaces of all sizes. It’s a tool used to assess how Ch’i, Yin and Yang forces, as well as the Five Elements. Think of it as an energy map. It’s represented by the 5 Feng Shui elements: earth, fire, water, wood, and metal. We think this is an essential Feng Shui home decorating tip.

The Bagua map is the shape of an octagon, just like a stop sign. Each direction represents a different area of your life. *If you’re still not sure how to use the Bagua map, watch this video below by Julie Khuu where she shows you how use the Bagua map to energize every corner of your home with specific elements and symbolic home decor.

5.) Use Feng Shui Friendly Colors

Use Feng Shui Friendly colors like neutrals or earthy colors in your bedroom to promote a restful sleep and offer a calming mood. Color plays an important role in Feng Shui because it has a certain vibrational tone (makes total sense) that chi picks up and distributes back out to the environment.

There is no doubt that colors have a huge impact on our state of mind, so choose your colors wisely. And natural light is also an important element in your home. Having plants in your home also has so many benefits and is a good Feng Shui principle.
